A nice little ramble along the River South Tyne from Garrigill to Ashgill Force, one of the finest waterfalls in the North Pennines.

After visiting The Dodd earlier this was our second walk of the day, an evening stroll to visit one of South Tynedale’s outstanding natural features.
The route out was really quite pleasant and particularly impressive was the section of the South Tyne at Windshaw Bridge. The real highlight of the walk though began when we turned up Ash Gill to follow the series of waterfalls that lead to the magnificent Ashgill Force. It is set in a natural amphitheatre and is quite breathtaking.
All in all this was an enjoyable mini-walk that showed you don’t have to walk for miles to have a good time.
